OBSERVATION - The Audience of My Decisions
The numinous is the ghost note: God seated among the watchers, sacred dread threading the room without announcing itself.
The Trembling
A WORD ENGLISH NEVER MADE · READ THE CUSTOMS HOUSEFrom the Latin numen. The feeling in the presence of something vastly greater. Fear and attraction at once, the response to holiness that predates any religion.
Coined from the Latin numen, the nod of a divine will, by the theologian Rudolf Otto in 1917. He needed a word for the raw experience underneath every religion: the mystery that makes you tremble and will not let you leave.
The sense of being in the presence of something wholly other. Skin prickles, voice drops, the room feels occupied. Fear and attraction run together: you want to hide and you want to stay. It does not require belief. It happens in cathedrals, at sea, and in front of certain images.
Awe scales with size and power and can stay secular. The numinous adds otherness: the thing is not just vast, it is not like you. Wonder leans in with questions; the numinous ends them.
What makes a piece feel witnessed. Where it is present, the viewer is not the only one in the room.

The numinous is the ghost note: creation witnessed at the seam, sacred dread stitched into the fabric itself.
The numinous is the ghost note: a sacred presence flickering at the shrine, close enough to warm and close enough to tremble before.
Numinous at trace. The sky remembered him. Something wholly other answered, and the piece does not explain it.
