I’m Left With Everything to Gain
Hope is the declared engine: another home, another family, another self, each named while the figure rises out of the burning city.
Sustained Warmth
Forward-facing positive charge. The projection of survival, held without evidence. Optimism expects. Hope continues while expecting nothing.
Old English hopa, from a Germanic root of uncertain origin; the word's history is quieter than the thing. Its intellectual weight came later: Greek elpis, the last thing left in Pandora's jar, and the Christian ranking of hope as a virtue, well above the level of a mood.
A forward lean sustained without evidence. The future stays lit at one point, and attention returns there the way a tongue returns to a loose tooth, checking that it still holds. It coexists with fully accurate pessimism, which is what separates it from a forecast. The body keeps a low readiness, as if the thing might need to be met at the door.
Anticipation has a date; hope has only a direction. Longing aches toward what is absent and may stay absent; hope insists, without argument, that it may not.
A small persistent source in a large dark field. It does not grow across the piece. It does not go out.
Hope is the declared engine: another home, another family, another self, each named while the figure rises out of the burning city.
Hope survives as a single line under the weight, the projection that something continues past everything gone.
Hope runs in the singles: sun on skin, air in the lungs, a forward-facing warmth that insists the vessel still shines.
Hope threads through the intensity, the forward-facing conviction that the force is leading somewhere worth arriving.
Hope is the sustained warmth under the flame, the conviction that the burning desire leads to being the one to do something.
Hope keeps the climb pointed forward, the insistence on being fine projected ahead of the evidence.
Hope runs under the surface, the projection that the light of day would come even when sleep never did.
Hope runs in the singles: another night survived, another sunrise, the projection forward that the pattern will hold.
Hope is the spine: every endured failure is read as routing, evidence that something greater is still on its way.
Hope carries equal weight: the candle glow is a forward wager, warmth pointed at an outcome that has not yet been given.
Hope is the reward held forward, a warmth on the far side that makes the endurance legible.
Hope is the abundance at the end of the verse, promised and not yet in frame.
