ARRIVAL - The Visitor
Transcendence is the direction of travel, out of time and forward, past what the body can carry.
Transmission
Passing beyond the body. Spiritual escape velocity, the point at which the self stops being the unit of measurement. Transcendence leaves; ascendance climbs.
From the Latin transcendere, to climb across, from trans and scandere. Medieval philosophers used it for what lies past every category; Kant made the crossing a limit of the mind itself, and the American Transcendentalists made it a practice. The climbing is still in the word: a passing over, never a state.
The self stops being the unit of measurement. Concerns that were structural a moment ago, name, standing, outcome, read as small and slightly absurd. The body is not lost, as in ecstasy, but left behind like a coat on a chair, retrievable. What is felt is scale: continuity with something that does not end where you do.
Ascendance climbs and remains the climber; transcendence crosses a line past which the climber stops being the point. Ecstasy removes the self all at once and without direction; transcendence leaves by a route, and can find its way back.
Vertical release. The figure dissolving upward or outward, losing edge in the direction of travel while the ground stays intact.
Transcendence is the direction of travel, out of time and forward, past what the body can carry.
Transcendence is the direction of travel, the self passing beyond its carried shape toward what it will be.
Transcendence is what the detonation buys, the body carried past what it held as the old state fails to survive.
Transcendence is the trajectory: the approach to the source itself, moving past the limits of the ones who observe it.
Transcendence rides the current, the body carried past its own limits as the charge exceeds what flesh was built to hold.
Transcendence carries the piece: a spirituality that outgrows the container of religion and keeps ascending past its walls.
Transcendence is what the merging reaches for, the work passing beyond the range of any single maker.
Transcendence is the knotting itself, God's image passing through the seams of space and time as they are tied.
Transcendence hums underneath it all, the pull past the body and out into the chaotic symphony itself.
Transcendence leads. This is no ending, but a fracture. A change of state rather than a finish.
Transcendence leads. Not born of flame, but of what flame dares not consume.
Transcendence is the tempering. Not to burn, but to be tempered.
