Boredom
The Plateau
Understimulation. Time experienced as resistance, which is boredom's only real content: the awareness of duration itself.
The word
The verb bore, to weary someone, surfaces in English in the mid eighteenth century, origin unknown; boredom itself is first recorded in Dickens, in Bleak House. The monks had it centuries earlier under another name: acedia, the noonday demon that made the desert fathers stare out of their cells at the long middle of the day.
The feeling
Time becomes audible. Minutes acquire texture and drag; the clock is checked and found to be lying. The body fidgets on its own, hunting stimulation at random: the fridge, the window, the same three apps in rotation. Attention is not absent, which is the cruelty of it; attention is fully present with nothing to spend itself on.
Against its neighbours
Interest is its exact inverse: time vanishes, and the object supplies more than attention can spend. Detachment looks similar from outside but has chosen its distance; boredom never chose anything, it is stranded.
In the work
A piece that gives the eye nowhere to go. Even distribution, no hierarchy, and a surface that does not reward a second pass.
No work carries Boredom yet. The element is named and the table is not finished.
These prints carry its family.

APOCALYPSE - For They Say That Hell Is On Earth
How big, actually.
Drawn to scale against a person of average height. Every size is a 4:5 rectangle, the same proportion as the work itself, so nothing is cropped to fit.
Sizes are the printed image. Framed works add the moulding around that. Standard US shipping is free at every size.
Paper, or canvas.
Same image, same inks. What changes is the surface it is printed on. Tap either one.
